Regina, Saskatchewan, April 23, 2009 - The Regina Palliative Care Inc. (RPCI) Greystone Bereavement Centre unveiled its new Children's Program Area today - equipment for this area including musical instruments, puppets and a range of other useful resources for working with children was made possible through a generous contribution from Ronald MacDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Canada. "Anyone who has parented a child or worked closely with children, knows that children learn through play. It is their language," offered Marlene Jackson, Bereavement Coordinator at the Greystone Bereavement Centre. "These new resources including music therapy equipment, puppets and therapeutic play tools will allow us to engage with bereaved children in creative, expressive ways." "Thanks to the generous contribution of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada we have taken a key step in pursuit of our long term vision for supporting children and their families," said Elaine Bourassa, President of Regina Palliative Care Inc. "We are committed to expanding our services in response to the needs of the community-and the needs of children are being given high priority. Our hope is that in the future we may be able to have an entire room dedicated exclusively to working with children. A dedicated and permanent space would facilitate the easy use of resources, like musical instruments and puppets, to help children engage in the process of coping with their grief in an environment that was designed specifically for meeting their unique needs."
